In the Zerg Race, Didn’t We Agree to Break the Engagement? Chapter 3
Chapter 3: Despicable Genes
Just sleep on it.
God, this was a lot!
A sensation, both strange and familiar, surged up Sirius’s spine and exploded in his mind. Sirius relaxed, leaning back on the sofa, looking down as he gazed at Lex.
The hair colors of Zerg bugs are all sorts of varieties. The Junci before him had beautiful deep purple hair. Under the lights, even that cold color seemed to have a hint of softness. The strands fell smoothly, and when the Xiongchong reached out to grab it, the beautiful hair became a mess.
The Cichong was very good-looking—a different kind of beauty than Julian’s. However, Sirius hadn’t clearly realized this before. After all, he had just picked one randomly from the Mainframe’s recommended matching list. He had instinctively looked for a Junci to form a common family structure.
Just something to get by with; who would care that much?
Sirius let out a long breath:
“Lex, you’re doing a great job. You really are a wonderful Cichong. I can’t believe I didn’t realize it before. I’m truly sorry…” Sirius’s voice was low and hoarse as he spoke deep words of comfort to the Cichong.
In the Zerg race, if one were to judge a Cichong, what would the criteria be?
Given the background of Zerg society, which only values two points, it would be reproduction and aggression.
A Junci possesses both. The union of a high-level Junci and a high-level Xiongchong would bring unimaginable pleasure. Perhaps Sirius had previously scoffed at this claim, but now he felt that maybe the rumors weren’t entirely false.
A part of his genes had been completely ignited.
The desire for conquest, the desire for possession, mixed with the unavoidable primitive ambition—the genes of a bug are despicable, and the genes of a Xiongchong are even more so. But unfortunately, Sirius was now such a despicable Xiongchong.
His hand relaxed, more gently stroking the Cichong’s hair. The light comfort allowed Lex to finally transition from a state of nervous tension to complete relaxation.
The Xiongchong’s patient soothing made the bug, who had been high-strung and stiff, look much gentler.
Sirius straightened up, reached out to pull him up, and tilted the Cichong’s chin. His thumb consciously and lightly rubbed the reddened corner of the other’s lips. Their noses touched, and their foreheads pressed together.
Lex unconsciously panted heavily, his hot breath puffing onto the Xiongchong’s face.
The air became increasingly humid and hot. Zerg like humid environments, though they don’t particularly like heat.
Sirius’s heart pounded restlessly. He was a bit short of breath, and the air seemed to have become thin due to the heat. He tugged at his collar, wanting to make his breathing smoother, but it didn’t seem to help much.
So, he took off his outer jacket.
—Zerg weather is kept at a constant temperature suitable for survival year-round, so Sirius was wearing ordinary sportswear. Now he was left with only a short-sleeved shirt.
He did feel briefly cooler, but these efforts seemed somewhat futile.
Because it was the air in the room that was hot, not just himself, so it would always get hot again very quickly.
“Is it hot, Excellence? Do you need to turn on the cooling?”
“You can, but I’m afraid I’ll be cold in a bit.”
“Then I’ll go get a blanket for you.”
“Let’s go to the bedroom; it’s more convenient.” Sirius seemed to mention it casually.
From the moment they met until now, the Cichong hadn’t felt anything was wrong. In fact, this was perfectly normal.
The Zerg race inherently values reproduction. For an unmarried adult Cichong, certain pre-marital behaviors were more than common. This was also why Sirius had thought Julian was a “player” initially.
It was a widespread phenomenon. Aside from protecting hatchlings, the Zerg race had few moral concepts.
Therefore, Lex was completely unaware that the Xiongchong in front of him wasn’t doing this because he was leaving tomorrow and couldn’t bear to let him go.
He was there to break the engagement.
Who would have thought? Would a Xiongchong who was willing to wait during an engagement period go back on his word? Does a Xiongchong breaking a contract need to notify the party in person?
The old-fashioned, conservative Cichong was completely oblivious. He only thought his dear young Xiongzi couldn’t bear the long separation and had come specifically to find him. Therefore, even as a conservative bug, he was willing to make an exception for him.
With a heart full of tenderness and nowhere to speak it, Lex’s tall body curled up, leaning against Sirius’s chest, quietly listening to his heartbeat.
He didn’t do anything specific, but just being like this was enough.
Sirius leaned into his ear, almost talking to himself:
“Did you just say you wanted to please me?”
The Cichong nodded without hesitation.
“Yes, Excellence.”
He wanted to please him? Please him so he wouldn’t break the engagement?
A very simple and cute thought.
This was supposed to be ineffective; how could Sirius change his mind so easily?
But!
The Xiongchong’s tone carried a hint of indulgent seduction:
“Is that so? I’m curious—how are you going to do it?”
The despicable bug genes were at work again.
He didn’t refuse, but he didn’t agree either. He just watched the Cichong’s next move, promising nothing, driven entirely by genetic instinct.
Sirius tilted his head back and sighed:
“Your eyes really are beautiful, Lex.”
The Cichong blinked his golden eyes and smiled at him with a red face. The smile wasn’t very big, but the entire bug became a bit more vivid, appearing very full of life.
There are many S-rank and higher Cichong. Lex, as the next captain selected by the military Mainframe, was necessarily SSS-rank. Unlike Julian, who was only A-rank, they could pass a lot of time together. Sirius had plenty of patience.
They could try many new and interesting things together.
…
Lex had a somewhat difficult night.
The Xiongchong had a full-blown mischievous streak. First, he asked him questions, but then he would deliberately cause trouble when he was supposed to be answering. On one hand, he wouldn’t let him speak, while on the other, he would lean sadly on his shoulder and accuse him of being cold.
The Cichong clearly saw through his wicked behavior but was powerless to stop it—or rather, he didn’t want to have a plan in the first place. He let him lean against his chest, and in that situation, he still had to hum to coax him, almost to the point of singing a lullaby.
A very bad Xiongchong, but there was no helping it; he was so enchanting.
Lex thought, even if the Xiongchong were a hundred times more wicked, many bugs would still fall in love with him.
Fortunately, the Xiongchong had chosen him.
The corners of the Cichong’s mouth were always turned up as he leaned in, loosely encircling the Xiongchong.
In fact, both Cichong and Xiongchong are very tall, and the higher the rank of the Zerg, the taller they tend to be. Sirius was naturally not short.
However, a Cichong’s physical fitness is overall stronger than a Xiongchong’s, and this is even more obvious for Junci. So while Sirius was taller than Julian, he couldn’t compare to Lex.
The Junci could almost completely envelop him.
Lex felt it was a bit of a pity. It was a pity that although Zerg nights are long, the time they had to leave was too early.
The artificial sun would diligently do its job, honestly shining and heating the sky. Every day, without fail, it rose at 7:00 AM and set at 7:00 PM. The Seventh Fleet, which had to depart early in the morning, also had to leave the Central Star at the same time the sun rose.
By 5:00 AM, Lex, the Vice-Captain, was already finished getting ready. Fortunately, the reproductive sac is a unique organ related to reproduction in the Zerg evolutionary process. It is quite miraculous; if nothing implants, it will turn the contents into its own nutrients. After implantation, it becomes nutrients for the egg.
So he didn’t need to waste much time; he just had to wait for it to digest. Thus, he even had time to stop in front of the Xiongchong, tiptoeing to kiss him on the forehead.
The Xiongchong was sleeping soundly. After all, it was still very early. Last night, they had indeed talked a lot, said many things, and done many things from top to bottom.
After all, a Xiongchong’s mental power has many uses: connecting for dialogue, communicating with Zerg eggs, improving memory, increasing reaction speed… and most importantly, increasing one’s threshold.
So in certain aspects, they are more enduring than Cichong. The higher the rank of the Xiongchong, the more this is true. When facing high-rank Cichong with extremely strong physical fitness, the two parties can cooperate very tacitly, especially a Xiongchong like Sirius.
His mental power was more than just a little bit higher than an ordinary bug’s. Lex had already experienced this a bit yesterday.
Sigh!
After standing by Sirius’s side, Lex didn’t wait for him to open his eyes. He couldn’t tell if he was disappointed that he couldn’t say goodbye or relieved that he hadn’t woken him up. Finally, he could only cover his lower abdomen and silently leave.
In the dim room, only the Xiongchong remained buried in the blanket, completely unaware of the Cichong’s complex emotions.
By the time he opened his eyes again, it was already 4:00 PM.
Clearly, a certain Lord Xiongchong had skipped a whole day of work. There were careful expressions of concern from Cichong colleagues, puzzled inquiries from Xiongchong colleagues, and, of course, the sweet and nervous anticipation of a certain lover.
[Lord Xiongzhun, how is the progress? That Junci surely didn’t make things difficult for you, did he?]
After a while, he sent a set of photos of himself. Perhaps having sensed something, he tentatively continued.
[I forgot to bring clothes again today, so I have to leave in your shirt again. Do you think I look okay in this one?]
[I’m going home now. You’re not here, and if I don’t leave soon, the management robots will kick me out (crying). But it’s so cold at home; I had Excellence by my side before, but now I’m so unused to it. I want to live with Excellence officially.]
[Goodnight, Lord Sirius~]
[Good morning, Excellence. Can I ask you out for lunch today?]
[Good afternoon, Excellence. Where are you? Can I go find you at the Research Institute? I promise I’ll be careful; I won’t let other bugs know about our news until you agree.]
…
Julian chattered on and on. It was clear he was on edge, unable to sit still. But Sirius was in no mood to reply to him.
What is the difference between a human and a bug?
Is it the simple moral sense of a human? Or is it that Zerg will naturally indulge in primitive desires?
Which side did he fall on?
A human? Then why was he in the Zerg race, why did he have mental power and extra organs? But if he was Zerg, then what did the memories of his past life as a human mean?
What should he do?
Sirius pulled the blanket over his head, curled up on his side, and let his thoughts go blank, controlling himself not to think wildly and not to question his own existence.
Lower your gaze and only focus on the present.
The problem he was facing was—
He still hadn’t broken the engagement!
There was simply no chance to say it last night. He would have to wait until next time.
As for why not say it on the light brain…
That would be too simplistic, too irresponsible. He was the one who filed the application, he was the one who wanted to go back on it, and he was the one who had possessed the Cichong…
But he was just like that. He was originally supposed to be such an inconsistent, profit-driven bug.
Sirius clenched his fists, letting his mind be drowsy amidst the chaotic swelling pain, never touching his light brain again.
Just sleep on it.
Perhaps it was because he stayed up too late last night. Just sleep on it. After waking up, everything will be better, just like countless times before.
