After Sharing Senses with the Paranoid CEO, the Infamous Starlet was Forced into Pampering Chapter 41

Chapter 41: Your Boyfriend

Why hadn’t Qin Yu ever brought any of this up? Li Yanzhou sat in his office, thoroughly displeased. He immediately called Qin Yu in.

Upon hearing the news, Qin Yu was equally dumbfounded. Who could have guessed that the reason Xia Mu constantly took taxis or carpooled was because of a fake company rule?

Whenever President Li asked for an update on Xia Mu, Qin Yu simply reported his schedule—who he was meeting with and what his itinerary looked like. It had never occurred to him to check how the actor actually traveled.

Seeing that Qin Yu was just as oblivious, Li Yanzhou exhaled slowly and waved his hand. “From now on, I want to know everything about Xia Mu. No detail is too small.”

“Yes, President Li.”

Li Yanzhou lowered his gaze, staring at the message Ren Zhilin had sent him:

[I’ve been looking out for Xia Mu all these years. He’s hardworking, driven, and honestly adorable.]

[If you don’t make your move and claim him soon, I might just steal him away myself.]

Li Yanzhou started typing a reply, but decided a text wasn’t enough to convey his irritation. He sent a voice message instead, tossed his phone onto the desk, and called Qin Yu back into the office.

“Have Ren Zhilin transferred back immediately. I don’t care how you do it. Find another doctor with comparable skills to replace him at Shengyi.”

Hearing the barely suppressed anger in his boss’s voice, Qin Yu winced. He didn’t know how Dr. Ren had managed to cross the line, but he had no choice but to comply.

Furthermore, he had to figure out a delicate way to handle this. He was Li Yanzhou’s assistant and had to follow orders, but Dr. Ren was Li Yanzhou’s close friend. If the president was just acting out of temporary pique, offending either side would put Qin Yu in a tight spot.

Meanwhile, Ren Zhilin noticed the incoming voice messages from Li Yanzhou. Since he was sitting next to Xia Mu in the back seat of the car, he didn’t want to play them aloud, so he used the text-to-speech feature instead.

The translation of the first message read: [Get lost.]

Ren Zhilin’s lips twitched. He converted the second one: [If you dare touch what’s mine, just see what happens.]

Ren Zhilin raised an eyebrow. If I don’t push you a little, are you just going to let him slip away?

He typed back: [Just a joke. No need to get so defensive.]

Li Yanzhou glanced at the message and replied coldly: [I’m not joking. Pack your bags and get ready to leave Shengyi.]

Seeing that, Ren Zhilin finally started to sweat. He knew Li Yanzhou never made empty threats. He glanced at Xia Mu, who was looking out the window, and casually snapped a side-profile photo of him.

[Come on, don’t be so ruthless. I’ve been taking care of Xia Mu for you for years. Is this how you repay me?]

[Your boyfriend. Happy now?]

Li Yanzhou opened and zoomed in on the photo. Since it was midday, the sunlight streaming through the car window illuminated Xia Mu’s face. His long, curled eyelashes cast soft shadows beneath his eyes, and his slightly pursed lips made Li Yanzhou want to steal a kiss.

His gaze then fell on the red scratch behind Xia Mu’s ear. The blood had dried. He couldn’t resist gently tracing his fingertip over the screen before typing a reply to Ren Zhilin:

[The ice scratched the back of his ear. I told him to apply ointment this morning, but it looks like he forgot. Grab some medicine for him when you get back.]

[Got it.]

Ren Zhilin leaned in slightly to inspect the injury. The scratch was easily over an inch long and looked fairly deep; otherwise, there wouldn’t still be dried blood on it.

“Xia Mu, did you put any medicine on the scratch behind your ear?”

“Oh, this?” Xia Mu reached up to touch it, but Ren Zhilin quickly swatted his hand away. “I was in such a rush this morning that it slipped my mind.”

“I’ll grab an ointment for you when we get back. Make sure you apply it properly so it doesn’t leave a scar.”

“Thanks, Dr. Ren.”

Ren Zhilin smiled. You should actually be thanking Li Yanzhou. If he hadn’t pointed it out, I wouldn’t have noticed it either.

But how did Li Yanzhou know about it so quickly? He even claimed he’d reminded Xia Mu this morning. Had they spent the night together?

Ren Zhilin was startled by his own train of thought. Have they really progressed that fast? If so, why was I trying to rile Li Yanzhou up? I practically walked right into a trap, making him think I was actually trying to steal his man.

It wasn’t appropriate to ask Xia Mu directly, so he messaged Li Yanzhou instead:

[Did you two sleep together?]

[Something like that,] Li Yanzhou replied instantly.

[Did you use protection? If not, make sure you clean him up properly. If your guy gets a stomachache, you’ll be the one suffering from worry.]

Li Yanzhou saw the message and realized Ren Zhilin had completely misunderstood the nature of their connection. But he didn’t bother correcting him; letting him believe it would keep his hands off Xia Mu anyway.

He replied: [I’ve got it covered.]

By the time they stopped messaging, the car had pulled up to the police station. Xia Mu told the driver to wait in a shaded spot, then walked inside with Ren Zhilin.

Because they had called ahead, they didn’t have to wait. Xia Mu was quickly led in to see Ma Haowei, the anti-fan who had thrown the ice water over him.

Since only one visitor was allowed in the room, Ren Zhilin waited outside.

Separated by a pane of glass, Xia Mu hadn’t even sat down before Ma Haowei sneered, “Seeing you here in one piece proves you’re doing just fine.”

“Yeah, no thanks to you. I spent a whole day in the hospital,” Xia Mu replied calmly. “But I’m curious—why did you do it?”

“No reason. I just can’t stand the sight of you. How does someone like you even get to be in the entertainment industry?” Ma Haowei said disdainfully.

“What exactly is wrong with me?”

“Photos of your bare ass are plastered all over the internet, and you still have no shame? If I were you, I’d hide at home and never show my face in public again,” Ma Haowei mocked.

Xia Mu’s hands clenched into fists inside his sleeves. “Unfortunately, I’m not you. And I couldn’t exactly control when the earthquake hit.”

“Please, who would believe that? You had time to grab treats for your cat but couldn’t even put on pants? You expect anyone to believe you didn’t expose yourself on purpose? What are you, an exhibitionist?”

Hearing her bizarre logic, Xia Mu actually smiled. “You’ve got it all wrong. Even if I got hurt in the earthquake, I still wouldn’t let my cat go hungry.”

“You—! You’re crazy!” Ma Haowei sputtered, unable to comprehend his response.

“I came here today intending to see if we could reach a private settlement. But looking at you now, I don’t see any reason to be lenient. Your actions easily constitute intentional injury, as well as picking quarrels and provoking trouble under the Public Security Administration Punishments Law.”

Xia Mu’s voice remained even, his gaze coolly detached.

“It’s just a shame you got lucky. The scratch behind my ear from those ice cubes was just a fraction of a millimeter shy of being legally classified as a minor bodily injury. Under Article 30 of the revised Public Security Administration Punishments Law, you’re looking at five to ten days of administrative detention, or a fine of up to a thousand yuan.”

Ma Haowei’s smug expression began to waver.

“And let’s not forget: you’ve shown absolutely no remorse and are still throwing insults. Our entire conversation just now has been recorded. I’m fully prepared to pursue civil liability for medical expenses and mental distress.”

Xia Mu leaned forward slightly. “One last thing—even if it’s just administrative detention, it will stay on your permanent record.”

At those words, Ma Haowei’s face drained of color.
