After Sharing Senses with the Paranoid CEO, the Infamous Starlet was Forced into Pampering Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Please Take Them Away
Li Yanzhou instantly threw back the covers and sat up. The moment he put on his slippers, he frowned slightly.
What was he doing? Even if Xia Mu was crying, what did it have to do with him? Just because of their shared senses, was he supposed to knock on his door in the middle of the night and coax him to sleep?
Li Yanzhou lay back down and irritably pulled the covers over himself. However, his nose felt stuffed up and uncomfortable—he wasn’t sure if it was because of Xia Mu or his cold.
Li Yanzhou turned off the light, wanting to sleep, but his consciousness was completely alert. After a while, his nasal congestion still hadn’t improved.
Having no other choice, Li Yanzhou opened the notes app on his phone. It recorded all of Xia Mu’s information, including his preferences, interests, habits, and schedule.
It had started as just a casual note, and Li Yanzhou hadn’t expected it to become a habit. After the assistant reported on Xia Mu’s affairs, Li Yanzhou would instinctively distill the key points and record them, even though he almost never clicked on this note.
Li Yanzhou scrolled through Xia Mu’s personal habits until he found the entry for when he was in a bad mood. Beside it were only two words:
[Eat, Sleep]
Li Yanzhou let out a cold snort from his nose. Eat and sleep? Isn’t that a pig? Then why doesn’t he have more meat on his bones? Wait, that’s not right. He seems to have plenty of meat on his butt. I wonder how it feels to the touch…
Realizing his thoughts were about to spiral out of control, Li Yanzhou snapped out of it and cursed himself a few times. Then he clicked on Xia Mu’s preferences to see what he actually liked to eat.
After reading it, Li Yanzhou was completely speechless. Instant noodles, hotpot, duck blood snail rice noodles, durian, jackfruit…
Why weren’t there any normal foods? It was either something stinky or junk food. It was impossible to send him hotpot at this hour. Excluding the other unhealthy and stinky items, only jackfruit remained.
A few days ago, the butler seemed to have told him it was currently the peak season for jackfruit. As for the specific variety, Li Yanzhou didn’t remember. He dialed a number:
“We still have jackfruit, right? Send a few to room 213 in the hotel.”
The person on the other end paused before slowly asking, “President Li, do you mean right now? Should I have them peeled before delivery?”
“Yes, handle it as you see fit. The sooner, the better.”
Li Yanzhou hung up the phone. Once Xia Mu stopped crying, he should be able to fall asleep, right?
“The sooner, the better.” The assistant implemented Li Yanzhou’s words to the extreme, to the point that there was no time to have them peeled. Instead, several crates of jackfruit that had just been air-shipped in yesterday were delivered to the door of Xia Mu’s temporary hotel room.
Xia Mu, who was hugging Xiatian and sobbing quietly, immediately grew alert when he heard a knock at the door. Could it be a fan who had found his address and come to harass him?
Xia Mu cautiously got out of bed and leaned against the door to listen to the movement outside.
The assistant knocked for a long time without receiving an answer, so he had no choice but to say: “Hello, Mr. Xia. I am a hotel staff member. We are very sorry for the distress caused by the earthquake. The hotel is providing a special compensation gift of jackfruit for you to enjoy.”
“Thank you. Just leave it outside the door; I’ll get it myself in a bit.”
Xia Mu was still worried that someone was pretending to be hotel staff. He had encountered such “black fans” before; as soon as he opened the door, a bucket of cold water had been splashed on him.
After a while, Xia Mu guessed that the person outside had probably left. He opened the door, only to see a cart holding six massive jackfruits. On top was a note: [We are truly sorry for the bad experience. Please accept this small token of our appreciation.]
Xia Mu stared dumbfoundedly at the jackfruits, each weighing over ten jin. Wait… all of these were for him? It wasn’t one per person? Was the hotel manager out of his mind?
Xia Mu turned and called the front desk. The answer he received was that if this batch of jackfruit wasn’t given away, it would go bad, so they had sent extra to everyone.
Xia Mu pulled the small cart into the room. After smelling them, he realized the front desk was right—each one was perfectly ripe.
Xiatian elegantly hopped onto the cart, his tail brushing against Xia Mu’s hand from time to time as if urging him.
“Alright, Xiatian, I’ll open one for you.”
Xia Mu had no choice but to pick up the knife from the cart and sit cross-legged on the floor to start cutting. As he peeled, Xia Mu felt like there was something wrong with his own head too.
It was already two in the morning. Why wasn’t he sleeping instead of peeling jackfruit? Although both he and Xiatian loved eating them, that wasn’t a reason to stay awake.
At this point, Xia Mu had completely put his sadness out of his mind, and Li Yanzhou finally managed to get a good night’s sleep.
The next morning, Xia Mu put on a mask and a hat, and even added a pair of glasses for style. Fully armed, he went to the front desk to print out his payment QR code, then dragged the cart of jackfruit to the street across from the hotel entrance.
After such a big incident last night, Xia Mu was originally supposed to go to the company in the morning to see how his future schedule would be arranged. But he really had no way to deal with all this jackfruit.
So, Xia Mu crouched on the side of the road with a sign standing next to him:
[Jackfruit, 10 yuan each.]
[Can’t finish them, please take them away.]
Li Yanzhou had a meeting in the morning, and his assistant drove him to the company. When they came out of the underground parking lot on the other side of the hotel, Li Yanzhou, who had been staring blankly out the window, suddenly spoke:
“Stop the car.”
“What is it, President Li?” The assistant asked in confusion, following Li Yanzhou’s gaze.
Li Yanzhou’s eyes were fixed on Xia Mu. He had just been wondering why the name on his abdomen had started burning again—so why was Xia Mu here?
Even though he was bundled up tightly, Li Yanzhou recognized him at a glance, especially with the sign made of cardboard behind him.
Due to the angle, Li Yanzhou only saw: [10 yuan per t—, please take away.]
10 yuan?
10 yuan per time?
Even if he was selling himself, he shouldn’t be selling himself like this, right? 10 yuan per time? Was he that worthless? Basically giving it away?
Thinking about how Xia Mu had suddenly been crying last night, Li Yanzhou pressed his lips together. Was it because his company had unilaterally terminated his contract? Were they no longer signing Xia Mu?
“What’s the situation with Xia Mu?”
The assistant quickly spoke: “The negative public opinion against him is still fermenting. The brands he endorsed have unilaterally terminated their contracts, planning to demand compensation from Mr. Xia on the grounds of improper behavior. Also, the statement Mr. Xia posted last night has been intentionally guided by internet water armies, and there are signs of cyberbullying starting. Upon investigation, the force behind this isn’t just his rivals.”
Li Yanzhou lowered his eyes. He had thought as much last night. As obscure as Xia Mu was, his rivals were equally low-status. But the drama he appeared in was a hit. At this juncture, the ones blackening the actors could only be the capital behind competing dramas that had premiered at the same time but flopped.
Having finally caught a flaw that wasn’t even really a mistake, they would naturally publicize and smear it as much as possible.
So, because he had to pay back the contract penalties, Xia Mu was crouching at the hotel entrance to sell himself?
“Wait for me here.”
After Li Yanzhou spoke, he opened the car door and stepped out.
Xia Mu was crouching by the roadside. Beside him, Xiatian was buried in the jackfruit Xia Mu had peeled in the early morning. “Xiatian, this is really the last piece. You can’t eat any more.”
Xia Mu was earnestly trying to persuade the cat when a shadow suddenly fell over him. Immediately after, a deep and indifferent voice came from above his head:
“Get up. Ten thousand per time. I’ll take it.”
