Wake Up, This is Not a Dating Show! Chapter 10.2
Part 2
“I’m thinking about how to find a breakthrough,” Yi Xingzhi opened his mouth, catching Ye Nai’s words. “The opponents’ strength is not weak.”
“I think the strongest combat power on their side should be Brother Lei,” Ye Nai analyzed. “People who are good at dancing are relatively agile, plus he likes working out, so his athletic cells are well-developed too. We need to keep a close eye on his movements when the time comes, and try to eliminate him first to lower the danger coefficient.”
“You know him that well?” Yi Xingzhi raised his eyes to look at him.
“We used to be in the same label, very familiar with each other,” Ye Nai answered simply.
Pei Ze nodded his head repeatedly. “Okay, okay, okay, specifically targeting acquaintances, huh?”
“Off the field is off the field, on the field there are no friends.” Ye Nai wore a serious face. “This is what it means to respect your opponent and respect the match. Respect.”
Following Ye Nai’s logic, Pei Ze thought for a moment: “I’m also good at dancing, so does that make me the strongest combat power on our side? Make sure you guys protect me a bit more!”
Ye Nai scanned his small, frail frame, shifted his gaze, and said, “Next, let’s talk about defense.”
Pei Ze: “…”
Feeling thoroughly humiliated right now.
The three of them roughly formulated a few strategies, preparing to make different responses based on different battle situations.
Before they could discuss the specific details, the car had already arrived at the destination—a wetland park with lush vegetation. The late spring weather was pleasant; the gentle breeze and warm sun were just right, and the trees and flowers were luxuriant and verdant.
Just stepping out of the car, they saw a basketball court. However, the hoops were lower than on a standard court. Beside it were six doors constructed from standing signs, obscuring whatever was placed behind them.
“Today’s first match is a fun basketball game.” The host began to introduce the rules. “Each guest will first choose a door and stand in front of it once decided. The prop behind the door is the tool you will use on the court later. Please begin choosing now.”
A piece of paper was pasted on each door, respectively writing: “Leisurely Time”, “Full of Tricks”, “Feeling Like Flying”, “Frog-tastic”, “Supreme Luxurious Enjoyment”, and “Technical Skill”.
Why would they need tools to play basketball? Everyone was utterly bewildered. Moreover, relying solely on these keywords, they truly couldn’t tell what exactly the items were.
The host wore an enigmatic smile on his face, with no intention of elaborating further.
“Then I’ll choose this ‘Feeling Like Flying’. Let me see exactly what kind of feeling it is.” Pei Ze was the first to pick. Seeing Fu Tingyuan standing motionlessly to the side, he urged, “I think you could pick ‘Supreme Luxurious Enjoyment’. It fits your ‘playing the diva’ theme today perfectly.”
“Makes sense.” Fu Tingyuan actually stood over there.
Pei Ze froze, turning his head to his two teammates. “Wow, I just said that casually, and he actually listened? Aren’t these kinds of programs always ‘the better the word, the bigger the trap’?”
“Then which words have a smaller trap?” Ye Nai knew he frequently participated in reality shows and was highly experienced.
“Now you know to ask me?” Pei Ze straightened his collar, putting on airs. “If you’re asking for advice, you need to have the right attitude. Let the Little Prince of Variety Shows teach you a lesson…”
“Spit. It. Out.” Ye Nai gritted his teeth, pronouncing each word distinctly.
“‘Leisurely Time’ and ‘Frog-tastic’.” Pei Ze answered in a split second.
Indeed, these more neutral-leaning terms seemed a bit safer. They might not be the best, but at least they wouldn’t be too terrible.
However, before Ye Nai even walked to the doors, he saw Yin Tianhan and Yuan Lei take the lead, evidently well-versed in this game as well.
Pei Ze knew that if he hadn’t wasted those few seconds, Ye Nai might have snagged it.
“Oh wow, this door is truly too door-like!” he pressed tightly against his door, muttering to himself while rubbing it.
Ye Nai: “…”
Yi Xingzhi had been silently observing from the sidelines. Watching four doors get picked, he displayed no emotional fluctuations, as if it didn’t matter which one he chose. He said to Ye Nai in a mild voice, “You pick first.”
“Whatever, this one is fine.” They were on the same team anyway, and Ye Nai couldn’t be bothered to pick and choose. He pointed to the “Technical Skill” door closest to him.
Yi Xingzhi then walked over to the door labeled “Full of Tricks”.
Seeing that everyone had made their choices, the host said, “Next, I will count down from three. Please push your doors open together. Three, two, one.”
Ye Nai opened his door, only to see a skateboard lying on the ground, while behind the door Yi Xingzhi had chosen was a pair of inline roller skates.
These names… were truly irrefutable.
But the style of everyone else’s was a bit weird.
Pei Ze’s “Feeling Like Flying” was a kick scooter, Fu Tingyuan’s “Supreme Luxurious Enjoyment” was a toy pedal car, Yin Tianhan’s “Leisurely Time” was a small tricycle, and Yuan Lei’s “Frog-tastic” was a frog scooter.
Put all together, it gave off the strong vibe of a parent-child show celebrating Children’s Day.
“Little Prince of Variety Shows, did you roll your car over?” Ye Nai cast his eyes down at Pei Ze’s prop, landing a critical hit. “And you rolled over a kick scooter no less.”
“This just proves that the production team isn’t playing by the rules, okay!” Pei Ze forcefully tried to save face. “Besides, yours aren’t any better either. Do you even know how to skate? If you ask me, they’re not even as good as my…”
Before his voice faded, Ye Nai had already pushed off with one foot, stepped onto the skateboard, and instantly glided far away. He skillfully executed a few snake-like swerves, then reversed direction and glided back, stopping steadily with a tail brake.
“What did you say?”
“…Nothing.”
Pei Ze didn’t want to bring further humiliation upon himself. Stepping onto his little kick scooter like a newbie hitting the road, he went off to the side to test it out.
Having finished testing his board, Ye Nai noticed that Yi Xingzhi still hadn’t changed his shoes. He was standing to the side looking at his phone. Puzzled, he asked, “What are you doing? Aren’t you going to try the skates?”
“Watching a rollerblading tutorial,” Yi Xingzhi raised his eyes to answer, then continued watching the video.
He looked far too calm, to the point that Ye Nai doubted if he had misheard or misunderstood. Blanking for a moment, he finally asked, “You don’t know how to skate?”
“I learned when I was a kid. Haven’t skated in many years, so I’ve forgotten a bit.”
Ye Nai fell silent for a while, realizing that what he was concerned about right now wasn’t the match results, but safety issues.
Obviously, the director’s team also attached great importance to the guests’ safety, distributing protective gear to everyone. Even Fu Tingyuan, who was driving the toy car, was assigned a helmet, and the front of his car was wrapped in thick sponge.
Naturally, the most fully equipped were Ye Nai and Yi Xingzhi, whose props had the highest danger coefficient. Aside from helmets, they also had a full set of wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads.
The other protective gear was fairly practical, but Ye Nai had no intention of wearing the helmet; after all, he hadn’t even worn one while learning to skateboard. Just as he was about to set it aside, he was stopped by someone.
“Put it on.” Yi Xingzhi pointed to the side. “The danger doesn’t necessarily come from yourself.”
Looking in the direction he pointed, the other guys were running amok trying to tame their small vehicles, accompanied by Pei Ze’s loud yells as he skated too fast and couldn’t brake. The scene was pure chaos.
Ye Nai stayed silent for a few seconds and buckled on the helmet.
He smoothed out his hair and tried to pull the straps, but because he couldn’t see, he only found one side. He fumbled around blindly on the other side for ages without finding where it was.
Just as he was getting a bit irritated, he suddenly saw a good-looking hand reach out in front of him. From the inside of his helmet, it hooked out the strap that had been originally stuck inside, smoothing it out for him.
The fingers inadvertently brushed past his cheek, leaving a slightly warm sensation.
Ye Nai raised his eyes, crashing straight into Yi Xingzhi’s deep, bottomless eyes that were close at hand. His throat suddenly felt a bit tight: “I can do it myself.”
“Didn’t I promise,” Yi Xingzhi actually didn’t lower his hands, but reached out to help him lock the helmet’s clasp. He then pulled the straps under his ears, pushing upward to tighten them. “I gotta take more care of you.”
Ye Nai’s chin was slightly tilted up by the motion. Because he was so close to the person in front of him, he involuntarily held his breath.
In just a moment, Yi Xingzhi had already withdrawn his hands and stepped back.
Ye Nai raised his hand to adjust the direction of the helmet, a bizarre emotion churning in his heart. He couldn’t articulate where this subtle feeling came from; he only felt it was extremely weird and subconsciously wanted to break it.
Catching another glimpse of Yi Xingzhi’s hand, he reminded him, “Your ring.”
“Hmm?”
“Remember to take it off, so you don’t get hurt.” Ye Nai rotated his wrists to warm up. “I’ll take you to practice rollerblading.”
